Responsibilities:

The Local Early Education Planning Council (LPC) of Santa Clara County is a collaborative association of representatives from the Early Learning field, including parents, child care providers, public agency representatives, and community members. The mission and vision of the LPC is to provide leadership for affordable, accessible, quality child care and family support services on behalf of every child and family in the county.

The LPCs 3 Year Goals (2014-2017)

ADVOCACY

  • The LPC will advocate for local, state, and national legislation in order to positively impact the quality of services to all children and families in Santa Clara County.

WORKFORCE

  • The LPC will actively support training, mentoring and workforce retention programs that improve the qualifications and effectiveness of early learning professionals.

QUALITY

  • The LPC will support efforts to improve the quality of care for all children birth to age 12 that support the foundations of healthy child development, family engagement, and school success.

SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

  • The LPC will regularly review our operational effectiveness and engagement to continually improve our systems.

 

Background:

Michael Garcia was hired as Staff Liaison to the Santa Clara County LPC in December 2005. Before accepting his position with the LPC, Michael worked with the Santa Clara County Office of Education, as administrative support to the Organization Development Department.

Prior to working at the SCCOE, Michael has served as an instructional assistant for Rose Child Development Center in Milpitas, ran an after school tutoring program, and served as a counselor for at-risk teens in Santa Clara County, both under Asian American Recovery Services, a local non-profit.

Michael holds a B.A. in Child Development from San Jose State University.
